Mission:
Nazareth Academy Grade School, founded in 1941 by the Sisters of the Holy Family of Nazareth, is a private co-educational Catholic school for students in grades one through eight. We believe that it is our mission to create an environment of love that inspires each student to grow and develop to his/her full potential. In imitation of the Holy Family of Nazareth, Jesus, Mary, and Joseph, we strive to spread the Kingdom of God`s love by finding God in everyday life events. We are committed to promoting academic excellence and insuring that each child and family is accepted as a part of the Nazareth family. We seek to accomplish our mission by providing a challenging curriculum.

At a glance:
In 1941, the Sisters of the Holy Family of Nazareth opened the doors of Nazareth Academy Grade School to those families seeking an educational environment for their children founded on love and respect as primary values. Built on property that was purchased in the 1920’s, the original school building was housed in a renovated barn at the corner of Grant and Frankford Avenues. When Holy Family College was established in 1954, it became necessary to relocate the grade school facility to a new location, on September 10, 1967, the cornerstone was laid and Nazareth Academy Grade School took its new location at 4701 Grant Avenue.

Nazareth Academy Grade School is now a part of a larger and continually expanding educational campus that includes Holy Family University, Nazareth Academy High School and Alpha House Pre-School.  Since its inception, Nazareth Academy Grade School has contributed its own spirit to the campus and remains strong. In 2002, a Capital Campaign was initiated to increase instructional classroom space. Through prayer and the stellar efforts of many dedicated and talented individuals, a new addition was opened in 2006. The new education wing features bright and inviting classrooms for Science, Mathematics, Music and Reading. The academic excellence to which students are called, in combination with the value-based curriculum helps Nazareth promote and continue the “Tradition of Excellence” that it professes.

The dedication and commitment of Nazareth Academy Grade School to achieve its objectives and plan for the future is evident from its past accomplishments. Seventy years later, the Sisters of the Holy Family of Nazareth and their mission continue to guide Nazareth Academy Grade School in an everlasting vision, which captivated the Sister’s Foundress, Blessed Mary of Jesus the Good Shepherd, Frances Siedliska:  “We are committed to creating communities of love and hope which celebrate the oneness of the human family.”

 Activities/Programs:
There are many options for students to develop their academic abilities. In addition to the core curriculum; there is further focus on organizational and study skills, Language Arts, Honors Mathematics and Algebra. Specialized areas include: Spanish, art, music and physical education. Moreover, Nazareth has kept pace with the ever-advancing trends in technology to prepare our students for high school and beyond. Along with a fully-equipped technology lab and a transportable cart of Net books, each classroom is also outfitted with an interactive Smart board. Since our students consistently score in the above average range on Terra Nova tests, a significant number of students are candidates for the John Hopkins Talent Search. Our students are also recognized for outstanding achievement as a top-ranked school in the First in Math online program.

Extracurricular activities provide students with many opportunities to be creative, to develop their athletic and artistic talents, and to work as a team toward a common goal. Music and the Arts are essential for the overall development of children and are an integral component of our educational program. Beyond the school year, opportunities for learning continue into the summer with a Technology and Art Camp, as well as a Theater Arts camp. Since 2003, many of our students have participated in the Junior National Young Leaders Conference and the National Young Scholars Program.

Nazareth Academy Grade School is accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools. The theme of our ongoing Middle States project, “Faith in Action, Rooted in Catholic Values,” is conveyed throughout the year by means of a variety of service learning projects held both in and out of the classroom. These activities provide important ways for our students to learn lessons in helping the less fortunate such as the homeless, the aged, and the infirm. Our students grown through the lived experience of the faith and learn compassion and citizenship by partaking in a variety of community building projects.
