Mission and Ministries Since 1885, when Mother Mary of Jesus the Good Shepherd (Blessed Frances Siedliska) arrived in Chicago to help serve the wave of immigrants from Europe, the Sisters of the Holy Family of Nazareth (CSFN) have been serving families and children in the United States. Such service flows from the congregation’s charism: to model the love within the Holy Family of Nazareth for God, for each other and for the larger community. Today, the CSFNs live out their charism through a community life of prayer and devotion to the sacraments, and through active ministering to families and children. Our sisters minister in the classroom, in healthcare institutions, in parish ministry, prison ministry, social service ministry, retreat ministry. Some sisters are engaged in ministry work for our “sponsored ministries” – those institutions founded by our sisters many decades ago. Others serve in our name at a variety of institutions, ranging from Catholic parishes and schools to county prison systems. All of them are serving God through their service to families and children.
