Mission and Ministries

CSFN Mission & Ministry, Inc.

CSFN Mission & Ministry, Inc. (MMI) was established on May 1, 2007, but its roots extend back to the late 19th century when the Sisters of the Holy Family of Nazareth (CSFN) first came to the United States and began serving families in Chicago, Pittsburgh and Philadelphia and soon after in other areas of the United States.

The sisters founded hospitals, schools and orphanages, most of which continue as sponsored ministries of the CSFNs today.  When the CSFNs consolidated what had been five U.S. provinces into Holy Family Province (USA) on May 1, 2007, they organized MMI to provide congregational oversight over these works and ensure the furthering of the ministry of Jesus Christ to all people in the tradition of the Sisters of the Holy Family of Nazareth.

MMI is the vehicle and means by which the Sisters remain in close relationship with and committed to the sponsored ministries in order to ensure their continuity in meeting the needs of the people of God and in the furthering of the mission entrusted to them.  Sister Loretta Theresa Felici, MMI president, explains that the MMI structure “helps us to make concrete our Nazareth mission to aid and support families in all areas of life—particularly in education, social services and healthcare.”

“In our role as steward, we are called to have significant influence over these ministries in order to fulfill our canonical responsibilities in the Church, Sister Loretta Theresa says.  “We are privileged to serve as sponsor of these organizations, collaborating with the Church in the extension of the kingdom of God’s love among all peoples.”
