Prayer for vocations: National Vocation Awareness Week
January 13, 2010.
Excerpts from National Vocation Director Sr. Michele Vincent Fisher's letter to CSFNs in the U.S., with the vocation prayer of John Paul II:It's that time of year again when the Church in the U.S. celebrates National Vocation Awareness Week (Jan. 10-16). Many people associate this with only the call to priesthood and religious life, but truly, this week is a celebration for ALL the baptized. The Church and the world need each of us to be people of the WATER, WORD and SPIRIT. St. Catherine of Siena once said: If you are what you should be, you will set the whole world on fire. Each of us, regardless of our state in life, is called to manifest Christ in our lives, and in that simple fidelity, we can and will change the world. ... ...Here is a prayer you can use and share this week as we celebrate the gift of God's call in our lives. ...Remember, If you are what you should be, you will set the whole world on fire. Lord Jesus, as you once called the first disciples to make them fishers of men, let your sweet invitation continue to resound: Come, follow me! Give young men and women the grace of responding quickly to your voice. Support your bishops, priests and consecrated people in their apostolic labor. Grant perseverance to our seminarians and to all those who are carrying out the ideal of a life totally consecrated to your service. Awaken in our community a missionary eagerness. Lord, SEND WORKERS TO YOUR HARVEST and do not allow humanity to be lost for the lack of pastors, missionaries and people dedicated to the cause of the Gospel. Mary, Mother of the Church, the model of every vocation, help us to say yes to the Lord who calls us to cooperate in the divine plan of salvation. We ask this through Chris, our Lord. Amen
