July 28: Weekly vocation reflection

Writing from Rome, site of the CSFN General Chapter Dear Friends, Another week has gone by and our time in Rome is nearing an end! In the course of a week, we have elected a new Superior General and General Administration and have been spending many hours of intense listening and dialog in an attempt to chart the course for future action and planning for our Congregation. Each one of us is weary from the expenditure of energy needed to build bridges instead of barriers. As I reflect on Sunday's gospel, I am reminded that sometimes I do not know what is best or most appropriate, nor do I even know how to ask for what is truly needed. Jesus promises that all who ask will receive, that all who seek will find and that all who knock will find the door opened to them. The twist comes at the end of the Gospel when Jesus declares that the response to our asking, seeking and knocking will be the gift of the Holy Spirit, the Advocate, the Breath of Life, the Fount of Wisdom and Fire of Love. This is the ultimate answer to our questioning, the most powerful discovery after our seeking and the most wonderful reception after our knocking. Come, Holy Spirit! Just a reminder that there is a Discernment Weekend and Come & See Day scheduled in just a few weeks in Texas. Mark your calendars for the weekend of Aug. 20-22 (August 21 for Come & See).
