CSFN sisters part of 16-patient kidney exchange

(Photo by Sr. Maryann McKeogh) Chicago —Two Sisters of the Holy Family of Nazareth (CSFN) were among 16 patients who participated in the live-donor kidney swap that made news at Northwestern Memorial Hospital here this week. Sr. Francesca Witkowska of Chicago received a kidney as part of the ‘swap;’ Sr. Edyta Krawczyk of Grand Prairie, TX , donated one of her kidneys. Sr. Edyta was one of 13 CSFNs who volunteered to be tested for compatibility with Sr. Francesca. Not only was Sr. Edyta compatible with Sr. Francesca, the Texas sister also has a universal blood type. Because of that, the sisters agreed to be part of the 8-kidney, 16-patient exchange at Northwestern. For stories from Chicago media outlets, click on the links below.
